Management Team

Jim Thornton
CEO and General Manager

Jim Thornton is CEO and General Manager of the U.S. Financial Services business of MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates Ltd (MDA) for their U. S. operations. 

He has 15 years of experience in operations and sales in the Property Information solutions industry, and was a Senior Executive Officer of LandAmerica Tax and Flood Services, formerly LERETA, prior to joining MSB.

Mr. Thornton holds a Master's of Business Administration in Marketing from the University of La Verne where he graduated Suma Cum Laude. He is also a Certified Public Accountant, receiving his designation while working for Coopers & Lybrand.

Peter M. Wells
President

Peter M. Wells is President and a 25-year veteran of MSB, responsible for managing the company’s business strategy, product development and co-sourcing services for the benefit of the property and casualty insurance, building construction, real estate, banking, and government sectors. 

Prior to employment at MSB, Mr. Wells served in various management capacities at Software Shop Systems, McGraw-Hill Information Systems, DRI, ACORD, and AMICA Mutual Insurance Company. He presents regularly at various insurance conferences and forums across North America and is the author of the book Insuring to Value and its sequel, Insuring to Value: Meeting a Critical Need, as well as numerous articles, industry standards, and best practices texts. Mr. Wells is a graduate of Boston University.

Pascal Lorthioir
Chief Knowledge Officer

Pascal Lorthioir manages the Data Asset Department of MSB and is responsible for the collection and analysis of all construction cost databases and maintenance of all products using these costs.  These products include the MSB “total-component” databases as well as a new line of global market databases with multi-lingual capacity and estimating systems data for appraisers, property claims adjusters, underwriters and building experts.  Mr. Lorthioir is also responsible for the design, product specification, and proofing of printed and electronic products.

Jonathan Kost
Senior Vice President, Claims Services and Commercial Solutions

As Senior Vice President of Claims Services, Jonathan Kost leads MSB in the design, development and optimum utilization of claims estimating and management technology and services as well as commercial lines underwriting products.

Mr. Kost is a published author of articles in numerous trade magazines, including Best’s Review, Insurance & Technology, Claims Guides, National Underwriter and Canadian Insurance. He is also a frequently requested speaker on topics involving the use of claims data and technology to optimize the property insurance claims value chain and improve the property underwriting process.

A graduate of Texas A&M and a member of both the PLRB Regional Affiliates Advisory Board and National Association of Catastrophe Adjusters, Mr. Kost also has patents pending for claims technology innovations.
